Andrey Kuzkin

Andrey Kuzkin (b.1979, Moscow) lives and works in Moscow.

The sphere of interests of Andrei Kuzkin includes exhaustion, seclusion, meditative work and relations between human and time. Kuzkin is distinguished by his romantic approach to the artist’s personality, making his work related to the semi-mystical views of Western art of the 1950s. His art sometimes echoes the magical practices of Joseph Boyce.

The most famous performance of Andrei Kuzkin was the performance "In a circle". For several hours, Kuzkin was walking in a circle pool filled with liquid concrete, tying himself with a rope to a peg fixed in the center. According to the artist, the action was a gesture of solidarity with people who have to bear the brunt of everyday life, unbearably difficult in this country. Based on the video documentation of the performance, a film was made, which was repeatedly used by Russian and European curators in various exhibition projects.

Graduated from Moscow State University of Printing Arts in 2001. Since 2006 - member of the Moscow Artists Union.
