Дима Филиппов b. 1989

I look for the places that reecho my experience and place different things there, or find a certain point of view. Thanks to these interactions, I can study the history of a place, or just enjoy the local landscape.

Dima Filippov is an artist, a curator, and a founder of Electrozavod Gallery in Moscow, as well as a co-founder of Expedition creative initiative — a research platform that focuses on remote regions of Russia. At the moment, field works in near-the-border Russian lands prevail in his art practice. Most of the works have been made in the suburbs of Gornyak Town (the Altai Territory) where the artist was born, but also in Elton Village and the Elton Lake in the Volgograd Region.

Since 2007, Dmitry has been doing installations, drawings, photographs, and videos to research the relations between humans and the terrain. In his art, terrains often become landscapes, a space where geography, economic maps, and a net of cultural establishments reciprocate in a sophisticated way.

The artist took part in special projects during the 4th and 5th Moscow International Biennales of Contemporary Art, the 4th Urals Industrial Biennale, and in the 15th Istanbul Biennale, too. Moreover, he participated in the art residences arranged in 2015 Tromsø (Norway) by Kurant Gallery, in Divnogorye (2015), and the one by Radiance Center of Contemporary Art (2023).

Mr. Filippov had his solo projects exhibited in the Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, ART4 Museum, and Electrozavod Gallery.
Some of his works are stored by AZ Museum (Moscow), Radiance Center of Contemporary Art (Apatity), and MYRA Center (Suzdal).
