pas tout: Ilya Grishaev

4 - 26 March 2016

Deterritorialization of art and education and their territorialization again — initiate the game of difference and repetition — example and copy, copy and phantasm — the artist abandons them and reinvents them

"Pas Tout" is the exhibition of Ilya Grishaev - the winner of the V Competition of young artists “Projects for Anna Nova Gallery”.

Ilya Grishaev’s personal project is an event, the process of creation of a new visual language, graphical writing and a relation between space and the viewer.

The gallery is transformed into a cartographical plane that records the artist’s observations; it becomes a kind of a plastic diary, where the works act as the documents, registering the process of their own creation. We can see the magic of lines which create eluding, open-ended meanings.

The exhibition is the system of knowledge; the artist’s experience brings up the topics of freedom and privacy answers the question of what are the necessary conditions for education. The main point of the exhibition is formed between the living and non-living, spontaneous and forced, random and regular - between art and education.

The graphic works, which begin and end the exhibition, are very characteristic for the artist. The graphics is based on an original canon. The drawing claims to be exhaustive like a phrase or a photo, where “the aura emanates for the last time” (Walter Benjamin. The work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction). The painting is like a repetitive gesture that bears the traces of writing, mixing – the authenticity ceases to be very important and any kind of interpretation loses its meaning.
