Andrey Kuzkin's personal project in Switzerland

The exhibition 'Le temps de la guerre' takes place in the Geneva gallery 'Art Now Projects' from July 12 to 22

The exhibition includes largescale sheets of performative graphics from the 'Time of War' project, each of which has the phrase 'I want the war to end' written on it in different languages - Ukrainian, Russian, French, English and Hebrew. The time spent on creating these sheets becomes intangible capital and an important component of the work. 'A strong desire, which cannot be realized in any way, has no direct way out and as a result is sublimated into these graphic sheets...' says Andrey.

Continuing the bread series, Kuzkin creates a sculptural constructor called 'Cubes (Interchangeability)', reminiscent of a children's game. The series consists of two types of equally sized cubic blocks: the first is a set of bread men lined up in several rows. Unlike other bread people who had their own individual portrait, the figures from the current series become a kind of collective body — an impersonal crowd. The second type of blocks is created from the earth that Kuzkin dug up in France. By an unplanned coincidence, this land was dug up near the fraternal cemetery of French soldiers who died during World War II.

Also on display are small sculptures — 'bread men', created by the artist upon arrival in Paris after a sudden departure from Russia. Andrey sculpted them using household items found in the basement of the house where he lived.  He was literally settling into his new home by doing this. Bread, in this case, symbolizes the frailty of the human body. Here the Christian symbolism of bread is combined with the tradition of bread modeling in prison.
