The collection of Russian pictorial art owned by Vladimir Nekrasov is known to be the largest in Russia. During several dozens of years of collection, Mr. Nekrasov managed to purchase a lot of remarkable works of art, obtaining almost every work of some artists and getting rare and thus unique and unexpected works by the others. Most of the 600+ works that Vladimir Nekrasov donated to the Russian Museum are showcased at the exhibition, including TRAP HOLE by Anna Andrzhievskaia.
The collection given to the museum by Vladimir Nekrasov contains a great deal of works by acknowledged Soviet artists, including Arkady Plastov, Sergey Gerasimov, Alexey Gritsay, Vladimir Igoshev, Mikhail Konchalovsky, Mikhail Kupriyanov, Dmitry Nalbandyan, Boris Nemensky, Boris Shcherbakov, and Viktor Tsygal. At the same time, the collector is also interested in scouting for new names, as well as undeservedly forgotten art phenomena. The part of the collection dedicated to the art of the 21st century is a real display of artistic life in the 2000s till the late 2010s. There are both famous artists who have taken part in many exhibitions and emerging ones who haven’t yet taken any positions in ratings and rankings. Vladimir Nekrasov bought many works from contemporary artists right after they had finished them, or after those works had been exhibited for the first time. The latest works date back to 2020.
Thanks to the artistic skill and variety of the exhibits, visitors will get a chance to appreciate all the cultural significance of Vladimir Nekrasov’s collection and his gift brought to the Russian Museum.
Vladimir Nekrasov’s Gift exhibition is taking place in the State Russian Museum from May 29 till July 1.
